Fastlane by PayPal
Company:
PayPal
Role: Sr. UX Manager | GA Release 2024

The Challenge
Manual guest checkout was killing conversion, with 70% of shoppers dropping off in clunky, form-heavy flows. Merchants were defecting to Shop Pay, Bolt, and Stripe Link, who offered fast, consistent guest experiences. PayPal needed a way to fight back, not just by fixing guest checkout, but by creating a bridge to branded PayPal accounts. That vision became Fastlane: a startup within PayPal, built to deliver a portable payment profile that worked across merchants with a 1-click integration.
Role & Scope
I led a scrappy, multi-disciplinary crew, 4 designers + content and research, to build a 0→1 guest checkout product at PayPal. We had one month for a Beta, limited resources, exec eyes all over us, and a global rollout around the corner.
Ship. Learn. Lead
Shipped the MVP in a month with a small team of designers
We filled the gaps, spun up an MVP design system, built brand assets, and wrote integration guides
I coached the team to stay nimble, and when numbers dipped, we swarmed to run new experiments that put us back on track
I inspired my team to create the vision story that sold execs on where Fastlane could go next
Outcome
~80% conversion, matching PayPal’s branded checkout
24K new profiles created in first month, with ~36% avg conversion (vs. Shopify’s 25%)
Checkout in under 3 seconds (faster than Shop Pay’s ~5.4s)
Takeaway
I helped the team find that sweet spot between scrappy speed and release quality. We moved fast without cutting major corners, and the focus on user value made all the difference.
